Older Citizens Advocacy York has remained open throughout the Covid-19 lockdown. We have supported 91 older people in the last 3 months.
We have a team of 30 volunteer and the types of issues with which they could support clients with include power of attorney, advanced statements, welfare benefits, pensions, accessing health and social care services and complaints. They can help clients to challenge decisions and support them at meetings and appointments. The work we do could involve liaising with other” organisations on the client’s behalf, form filling and letter writing. Our volunteers are able to support clients with a wide variety of issues that they encounter in their lives.
We are happy to take referrals from other organisations or people can contact us directly. All clients have an initial meeting (currently over the phone) but usually face to face with our Lead Advocate. They chat through and agree with the client what help or support. They then match the client with a volunteer with experience of the issue. The volunteer works with the client for as long as is required. Our service is client led, free and confidential.
