WE’RE GOOD TO GO! YORK’S CITY SIGHTSEEING TOUR WINS ‘TOURISM TICK’ AS PM GIVES GREEN LIGHT FOR RETURN TO THE BUS

VisitEngland recognises bus operator’s ‘Clean, Safe, Ready to Go’ measures as Prime Minister Boris Johnson signals immediate return to public transport

It’s the best way to discover one of our nation’s most fascinating historic cities – and now the ever-popular City Sightseeing York open-top bus tour has won a ‘tourism tick’ confidence mark from national tourism agency VisitEngland.

The award comes as the first of a new-look fleet of high specification, low emission buses featuring smart new interiors, stylish seating and mobile device charging at every seat makes its debut on the York tour, which has now returned to its circular route around the city after a three-month break due to temporary pandemic travel restrictions.

The news comes after Prime Minister Boris Johnson declared an immediate return to the use of public transport, ahead of further relaxation of restrictions next month, including the end of the Government’s “work from home” advice.

To qualify for VisitEngland’s ‘We’re Good To Go’ industry standard and confidence mark, parent company Transdev demonstrated that all social distancing and cleanliness protocols are in place on each of its buses, including on the City Sightseeing York tour.

The new award follows Transdev’s own unique customer communications campaign, designed to dispel any concerns about using buses now that pandemic lockdown restrictions have eased. Its short video, following an everyday bus journey through the eyes of a customer, has been shared thousands of times across social media and is live on YouTube here: https://bit.ly/3gQqMri.

Transdev CEO Alex Hornby said: “We’re delighted that VisitEngland recognises the hard work by our teams to show that travelling by bus is still as enjoyable and safe as ever. Coming on top of the Prime Minister’s vote of confidence in us, which means people can now travel by bus for any reason, this award gives further reassurance that it’s now time to return to the bus.

“Our City Sightseeing York tour has always been the ideal way to discover the city and learn more about its dramatic past, and even if the weather lets you down, we won’t! When customers book online at https://www.yorkcitysightseeing.com, our Rainy Day Guarantee means you can use your ticket any day during the week after your booking if it’s raining on your tour day.”

“Our City Sightseeing York tour buses are ready to play a vital role in making sure tourism safely returns to its place at the heart of York’s economy, while continuing to provide our customers with all the help and reassurance needed to enjoy our amazing city to the full.”

VisitEngland Director Patricia Yates said: “With millions of jobs and local economies across the country reliant on tourism it is essential that businesses can get up and running as soon as the respective Government advice allows, to capture the peak British summer season.

“We want visitors to be able to enjoy their holidays and to support businesses to be confident they have the correct procedures in place. Our priority is to make sure tourism rebounds to again become one of the most successful sectors of the UK economy, and this ‘ring of confidence’ is a crucial step on the industry’s road to rebuilding.”

City Sightseeing York tours follow a circular route currently serving 14 stops around the city every 30 minutes from 9am to 4.30pm every day. Customers are free to hop on and hop off all day to enjoy York’s attractions, or simply relax and take in the unrivalled 360-degree views of all the most popular landmarks.

An entertaining audio commentary in 9 languages, including an authentic Yorkshire voice, features fascinating facts, while exclusive ‘Transdev Treats’ discounts for attractions, eateries and more are available by showing a York City Sightseeing ticket.

City Sightseeing York buses call at or close to all the major sights, including:
