Travellers returning to the UK from “red list” countries will be sent to quarantine hotels for 10 days, Boris Johnson has announced. People will also be required to fill in a form explaining why their trip is necessary, with enforcement stepped up at airports to prevent leisure travel. Scotland’s First Minister has said Boris Johnson’s proposed visit to Scotland on Thursday is “not essential”. Johnson targets March 8 as earliest date for reopening Englands schools

Lockdown measures will remain in place until at least March 8, Boris Johnson indicated as he earmarked that date for the reopening of England’s schools. The Prime Minister confirmed that hopes of pupils returning to class after the February half-term have been abandoned.   The March date is based on progress in vaccinating the most vulnerable groups in society by mid-February and then giving the jab time to take effect. People infected with the new UK coronavirus variant are less likely to report a loss of taste and smell, figures suggest. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said the symptoms were “significantly less common” in patients who tested positive for the new variant compared to those with other variants of Covid-19.   They are more likely to report “classic” symptoms of the virus, such as a cough and a fever. The ONS also said other symptoms were more common in […]

HS2 Rebellion activists occupied Euston Square Gardens claiming there were plans to build a temporary taxi rank over the small green space outside Euston Station. But the group said some demonstrators were evicted shortly before 5am on Wednesday by bailiffs from the National Eviction Team. Several protesters still remain in the area and can […]

The coalition of business and city leaders said “bold, swift action” is now needed from the Government. The analysis covers 3,199 secondary schools across England, though some may have had […]

The UK could see another 50,000 deaths from coronavirus, a scientist advising the Government has warned, as the Prime Minister said he was “deeply sorry” for every life lost.
