York City Knights are pleased to announce the signing of Rhiannion Marshall. The loose forward has previously played for the likes of Bradford Bulls, Leeds Rhinos and most recently, Castleford Tigers. Marshall joins the Knights as part of the club’s #SuperSeven announcement.

The former England international has enjoyed a distinguished and highly decorated career in women’s rugby league.

Marshall is arguably one of the most gifted players in the game and has consistently played at the highest level for nearly a decade.

The 28-year-old has been involved in multiple Challenge Cup Finals and Grand Finals over the years and is set to bring a wealth of experience to York.

Speaking about her move, Marshall said: “I’m really excited. It’s going to be a very new experience and hopefully a very successful one.”

When asked about the club’s backing towards the women’s team, she said: “It’s something that we’ve never seen before. I really trust that the club is going to deliver on all its plans and ambitions.

“The club wouldn’t have us here if they weren’t serious about this. It’s going to be a massive step for women’s game.”

Marshall is also looking forward to getting out onto the new stadium saying: “It’s brilliant. You could never imagine playing somewhere like this and this being your home club.”

York City Knights Ladies new Head of Performance, Adam Cuthbertson, said: “I’ve had the privilege of coaching Rhiannion at both club and international level. We won a Challenge Cup the League Leaders’ Shield together during my time with Leeds Rhinos Women in their first year in Super League.

“In 2019, when we had the Papua New Guinea tour with the Women’s squad, I had the privilege of coaching her again.

“She’s an outstanding talent and has the ability to fulfil the role of the half, front-rower, loose-forward and hooker, you name it. She’s so skilful and has the ability to change the game with her ability to break the line with her strength of carry.

“Rhiannion’s been around the league for a long time now and she’s only 28. She’s played for a number of different teams and she’s had an immediate effect on most of them. She has also been a part of the England system for a long period of time.

“I think she’s quite exciting, a true leader and is going to be one that we can hopefully set the foundations around moving forward at York City Knights.”

Marshall could feature during Sunday’s Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup Round Two tie against Wigan Warriors, LIVE on The Sportsman’s Youtube channel. The match kicks off at 12 noon and, with our men’s team facing Featherstone Rovers on Sunday night on Our League, York rugby league fans have a feast of action to look forward to!
