A new look this Christmas for The Milton Rooms, Malton

The Milton Rooms - Main Hall

Refurbishment work is now complete at The Milton Rooms in Malton following a £500,000 funding boost from Ryedale District Council.

Following the difficulties faced by the venue throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the funding was awarded by Ryedale District Council in 2021 in a bid to support the Milton Rooms’ three-year business plan. This plan included a focus on refurbishment work, in addition to developing the cultural activities on offer and increasing community use of the iconic building.

Over the past year The Milton Rooms has undergone significant works to modernise and update key areas within the building, including the complete redecoration of the main hall, the installation of a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system and updates to the studio bar, toilets, foyer.

As part of improving accessibility a new lift has also been installed, along with the fitting of a new disabled toilet complete with baby changing facilities and updates to the existing accessible toilets.

With Christmas festivities well underway at the popular cultural venue, the building’s new look and updated facilities have been well received by the local community, and by members of The Milton Room’s managing committee.

Ray King, Chairman of Trustees at The Milton Rooms, said:  “We, the trustees at the Milton Rooms, are most grateful to Ryedale District Council for the funding for our venue to the tune of £500,000.

These changes have been well received by the community of Ryedale, and beyond, as indicated by strong attendance at our events. We are now able to offer a wider range of events to suit all tastes and the venue is also available for private hire.”

Phillip Spurr, Programme Director of Place and Resources for Ryedale District Council said: “We’re thrilled to be able to support The Milton Rooms and the modernisation works that have been taking place over this last year. The investment made by Ryedale District Council has supported this valuable cultural venue to help it become more accessible to members of our community.

We hope audiences can now enjoy the updated facilities and festivities taking place at the venue over Christmas, into the New Year, and for many years to come”.
