York organist Geoffrey Coffin will give the third of Selby Abbey’s series of nine Summer Celebrity Lunchtime Organ Recitals this Tuesday at 12.30pm.
The programme will consist entirely of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, particularly well suited to the Abbey’s world renowned Hill organ.
Geoffrey Coffin worked with the National Youth Orchestra before moving to York in 1971 when he was appointed assistant organist to the legendary Dr.Francis Jackson at York Minster.
No one understands Selby Abbey’s Hill organ better that Geoffrey Coffin. Through his company, Principal Pipe Organs of York, he oversaw the restoration of the organ - some 3980 pipes - completed in 2016. His choice of the music of J.S. Bach has been selected to demonstrate the full range and capability of the instrument
The free lunchtime recital in Selby Abbey begins at 12.30pm and lasts for about one hour.
The Abbey welcomes visitors daily from 10.00am to 4.00pm and is both dog and bicycle friendly
