GRIFFO in the Morning

6:00am - 10:00am

Brew York is celebrating its 7th birthday in style, with a two-day bash featuring some of the world's leading breweries.

To mark their seventh birthday this April (21st & 22nd April), Brew York has invited five leading international craft breweries to pour alongside them at their 2023 Brewery Bash.

The celebration will take place at the main Brew York state-of-the art brewery and newest tap room space at Handley Park, Osbaldwick. Lervig (Norway), Moersleutel (Netherlands), Funky Fluid (Poland), Blech Brut (Germany) and Hidden Springs (US) will all be pouring their own beers in person alongside Brew York at pop-up bars across the impressive 65,000sq ft site. The main taproom bar will also serve Brew York beers as well as cider, wine, cocktails, spirits and soft drinks.

Over a hundred beers will be pouring across the weekend, from Brew York’s best-sellers to new and rare specials and some brand new seventh birthday beers – each brewed in collaboration with the five guest breweries. The birthday beers for 2023 will be themed with a nod to the upcoming UK-based Eurovision Song Contest, with the series named ‘Collabovision’.

A programme of talks and tastings hosted by Brew York and each of the guest breweries will be presented at the Brewery Bash, with half available tickets released in advance to ticket holders.

Also at the event will be a range of hand-picked street food venders, entertainment, family-friendly games and activities for children. Local coffee roasters, Divine, will also have a stand at the event.

The Brewery Bash is split into three sessions – Friday evening, Saturday afternoon, and Saturday evening. Tickets for Saturday afternoon are already sold out.

Cofounder and Managing Director of Brew York, Wayne Smith says this year's birthday party is somewhat bitter-sweet:

“It’s incredibly tough times right now. We’re looking at the Brewery Bash and our seventh birthday as a way to try and bring some joy and hope to an industry that is facing fierce challenges. Every brewery closure shakes the whole industry.

For Brew York the next year is about consolidation and survival. We’ve always tried to stay focused on what we love about what we do and the vision we have for the business, but this has to be the hardest bit yet. We’ve got some new significant challenges ahead with increases in costs across all areas and we’ve put a few plans on temporary hold as we hunker down. We’re trying to learn as we go and keep on evolving as we need to.

Right now, we’re feeling good about welcoming lots of our industry friends and loyal customers to our main site in April to mark seven years with us.”

Tickets for the Brewery Bash are £11 for adults and include entry to the festival, a branded, limited edition 7th Birthday Brewery Bash glass, an event brochure, free access to brewery tours (first come first served), and the option to book on to special talks and tastings (limited spaces; some may carry a small extra charge). Under 18s are welcome until 8pm and the event is dog friendly.
