Castle Gateway engagement events to start this weekend

York City Council

Residents and businesses are being invited to events that are taking place over the next week to have their say on the latest ideas for the Castle Gateway area.

A number of tours are taking place this Saturday (7 September) with a small number of spaces still available. The team are also holding an online event on Monday 9 September and will be attending a ward committee meeting on Thursday 12 September. Bookings for the site tours and online event can be made at https://mycastlegateway.org/events/.

Last month the council unveiled updated proposals for the area with the aim of:

  • delivering flexible green space with children’s play provision
  • retaining blue badge parking numbers
  • reducing capital and management costs

The ideas that residents and businesses are being asked to feedback on include; more planting and green spaces, improved pedestrian facilities, options for retained blue badge parking, as well as connections to the river with a riverside path and boardwalk to the rear of the Castle Museum which would link to the proposed new pedestrian and cycle bridge over the River Foss.

Councillor Katie Lomas, Executive Member for Finance, Performance, Major Projects, Human Rights, Equality and Inclusion at City of York Council said:

“We are grateful to everyone who has shared their thoughts on the latest designs for this important part of the city so far.

“Our plans seek to create a place where all residents want to spend time and enjoy. Your thoughts and feedback are vital in helping shape the scheme design before a revised planning application is submitted. There are still some spaces available for the tours this weekend and our online event next week so please do get involved and have your say.”
