Celebrated German organ virtuoso to play at Selby Abbey

Professor Bernard Haas, Professor of Organ at Stuttgart University and Organ Professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich, will give the seventh in Selby Abbey’s Summer Series of lunchtime organ recitals at Selby Abbey this Tuesday, July 25th.

In recent years the Abbey’s world famous Hill Organ, restored by Principal Pipe Organs of York some five years ago, has drawn organists from around the world to perform before a knowledgeable and enthusiastic audience. Professor Haas is the third organist from Germany this year to travel to take part in this series of recitals.  He is much in demand internationally and has given recitals in almost every country in Europe and further afield, including Japan and South Korea. His programme will include works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Max Reger and, bringing the programme more up to date, Parables of Lucid Dreaming by Brian Ferneyhough.

The recital commences at 12.30pm, lasts approximately one hour and admission is free. Donations towards the Abbey’s music  and fabric are welcomed.

The Abbey welcomes visitors daily from 10.00am to 4.00pm
