Black Dyke Band, the first brass band to reach No.1 in the classical music chart in 2020 with a recording of music by John Rutter, will be in concert at Selby Abbey on Saturday 30th September at 7.30pm.
Black Dyke Band can trace its history in the West Riding of Yorkshire back to 1816 and is the most recorded band in the world with over 350 recordings to its credit at the last count. In the highly competitive world of brass bands Black Dyke Band has won the European Championships thirteen times, the British Open no fewer than 30 times and the National Championships of Great Britain 23 times. In more recent years the Black Dyke Band has scored a hat trick of wins in the Yorkshire Regional Championships in 2020, 2022 and 2023 (there was no contest in 2021 due to Covid)
Selby Abbey, where they make regular and popular visits, is a favourite concert venue for the band, their stirring music, both traditional and modern, echoing round the spectacular Norman pillars of the Abbey Nave.
The concert on Saturday 30th September begins at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £17.50 and are available at the Abbey Gift Shop, via Eventbrite, or on the door on the night.
Selby Abbey welcomes visitors daily from 10.00am to 4.00pm
