Foster carers are ordinary people doing an extraordinary role. Foster caring. City of York Council
Children’s Services leaders in York have praised this year’s iconic John Lewis Christmas advert for highlighting the needs of children and young people in care.
The ad, which features a couple preparing to welcome a young person into their home at Christmas, highlights the important role that foster carers play in the lives of children and young people in care.
Martin Kelly, the council’s Corporate Director of Children and Education, explained: “Foster carers really do the most extraordinary job, offering a warm, caring home to local children and young people when they need it most. Like most local authorities, we’re always looking for more foster carers so we can support children and young people in their own communities.”
Cllr Andrew Waller, the council’s Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education, said: “Fostering is a uniquely challenging and rewarding role that really does provide the opportunity to change a child’s life forever. We need foster carers from a wide range of backgrounds in York now. I’d urge anyone who is interested in fostering to get in touch to discuss the opportunities with our team.”
City of York Council’s Fostering Team and a foster carer will be at the Information Centre at Monks Cross (next to New Look) on Wednesday 21 December from 11am – 2pm to chat to anyone who’s considering fostering and answer questions.
