Reignite is set to return for its seventh event this February, celebrating York’s rich creative heritage and commitment to shaping the future of the creative industries.
York has long stood at the crossroads of history and progress, and its designation by UNESCO as a global hub for media arts affirms this dual identity. Reignite explores the transformative potential of digital technologies to push creative boundaries and celebrate innovation in our region.
Reignite VII: The Intersection of Art & Technology takes place on Thursday 13th February from 6-9.30pm. The event starts at Yorkshire Museum with presentations from York Minster, Viridian Labs, and Peel X. Afterward, guests are invited to experience York BID’s Colour & Light projection, followed by an exclusive tour of the Centre for Excellence, networking and DJ at York Minster.
The event will explore the latest advancements in technology and their impact on art and the creative and heritage industries, showcasing the power of innovation and cross-sector collaboration.
York Minster’s Centre for Excellence demonstrates how modern tools can deepen our connection to the past while revolutionising heritage practices for future. Viridian Labsblurs the lines between the tangible and the virtual, inviting audiences into richly layered, interactive worlds through augmented reality. Peel X pioneers dynamic solutions at the juncture of physical and digital innovation. Known for their groundbreaking wearable tech and installations, the company’s work reimagines how we experience performance and interactivity.
Cherie Federico, Director of Aesthetica, said: “As we move into year two of hosting the Reignite series of events, we can see ambition raising across the city and region. We are working hard to develop the creative industries in York & North Yorkshire and look forward to rolling out the next year of Reignite.”
“It’s exciting to see what has been achieved thus far and puts us on a strong trajectory for further sector development. I am thrilled to work with partners such as York Minster, York BID, CYC and York Museums Trust to make Reignite have such considerable impact.”
Rachel Bean, Project Manager at York BID, said: “Reignite is a truly unique and inspiring event, and demonstrates how innovative technologies can drive economic growth and enhance our city's cultural landscape. The BID’s Colour & Light Projection is the perfect example of that, and we’re excited to be starting the 2025 series in such an energising andimpactful way.”
As one of the first cities in the world to receive the UNESCO City of Media Arts designation, York is dedicated to fostering its creative industries and driving change through collaboration.
This event is a prime example of how the city continues to amplify the voices of innovators who are reshaping the global cultural landscape, to explore its potential, and to leave inspired. We encourage all sectors to join us from retail, hospitality, transport, services, heritage and creative, as we explore the intersection between art and technology and the impact it has on all of our industries.
