Parents-to-be and new parents in York can now get support and advice in a handy booklet, thanks to a new initiative as part of the Raise York Family Hubs network.
Supporting your parenting journey in York – a short booklet focussing on key parenting themes and signposting to further sources of information – is now being given to York parents-to-be at their first appointment with a midwife. It’s also available at York Register Office, so parents can collect a copy when they go to register their child’s birth.
The booklet includes information on a wide range of topics, including supporting parents’ mental health, infant feeding, bonding with your baby and child development. The aim is to support parents at the earliest possible opportunity.
Cllr Bob Webb, City of York Council’s Executive Member for children, young people and education, said:
“Becoming a parent can bring a wealth of emotions and while it can be wonderful, it can also feel like an anxious time. Supporting your parenting journey in York aims to provide basic information in an easily accessible way, as well as signposting parents to further details and community support. We all need some extra support from time to time and I hope that the booklet helps to ensure parents-to-be and new parents get the advice and support they need.”
The booklet forms part of the information, advice and support offer available to families in York through the Raise York Family Hubs Network. It includes physical family hubs at Clifton Children’s Centre, The Avenues Children’s Centre and Hob Moor Children’s Centre, as well as satellite support at York Explore Library, Acomb Explore Library and Tang Hall Explore Library.
The Raise York website – www.raiseyork.co.uk – also contains a wealth of support and information.
