Papplewick is a boys' prep school in Ascot. The majority take instrumental or singing lessons and music scholarships to the main independent senior schools are regularly won.
There is a strong singing tradition at Papplewick and membership of the Chapel Choir is highly valued. The boys are joined by members of staff and parents to facilitate four-part harmony. They went on tour to Malta in 2019 and to Rome in 2023 and have sung Evensong at Portsmouth and St Albans Cathedrals and Romsey Abbey. They are delighted to be returning to Selby Abbey where they last sang two years ago. The choir's repertoire is centred on contemporary sacred music with some more traditional anthems. Their lunchtime concert on 9th February will include music by Bob Chilcott, Malcolm Archer and John Rutter as well as Tchaikovsky, Faure, Vaughan Williams and the boys' favourite anthem "Insanae et vanae curae" by Haydn. Their accompanist on piano and organ will be Anthony Gray from St.Wilfrid’s Harrogate and Bradford Cathedral.
Admission is free –There will be a retiring collection.
