From a back flipping Olympic gymnast and an awesome set list of the coolest indie, rock and pop tunes to the perfect prize for the classic car enthusiast, The Millie Wright Children’s Charity Winter Ball had it all.
Held on Saturday 25th November at York Racecourse, The Millie Wright Children’s Charity Winter Ball definitely pulled out all the stops, giving its 275 guests a night to remember. Raising over £23,000, the event brought together volunteers, trustees, NHS staff, patient families and supporters to celebrate the work of the charity and to raise much needed funds.
Charity Patron, Olympic Gymnastic Nile Wilson comments:
“I am honoured to be the Patron of The Millie Wright Children’s Charity. The Winter Ball was an incredible event and an opportunity to celebrate everything that has charity has achieved over the last 12 months. I’ve seen first-hand what a difference the charity is making and the impact their work is having on families and children in hospital.
Thank you to everyone who came along, donated, and showed their support. Thanks to Bangers and Cash, Amy Garcia and Warning Tones, what a great evening! Let’s keep making a difference and creating change”.
Launched in May 2022 by Ceri and Nigel Wright, in memory of their daughter Millie, The Millie Wright Children’s Charity exists to address the inequalities in hands-on charitable support for families and carers of children with life threatening conditions. The charity provides practical emotional, wellbeing support for children and their families throughout their stay in hospital.
Known as ‘Peter and Millie’s Winter Ball’ the event also recognised the life of Peter Woodmansey a former Bootham school student who died in 2020 after a short battle with leukaemia. A proportion of the funds raised will go to support a project in memory of Peter. The project will be inclusive of haematology patients on the oncology ward at Leeds Children’s Hospital, a ward where Millie and Peter both received treatment.
Trustee of The Millie Wright Children’s Charity and Chairman of Pavers, Stuart Paver comments:
“I was sat in the audience at the Winter Ball last year completely unaware I was going to get another job and become a Trustee. I really didn’t understand two children with life threatening conditions and their families in the same hospital could have a completely different experience and it was something I wanted to help eradicate.
As a charity we rely entirely on the kindness and generosity of individuals, groups, and organisations. Your support, no matter the form, can have a profound impact. Whether it’s fundraising, donating, or participating in our initiatives like our ‘Saturday Suppers’ your involvement makes a tangible difference”.
