Selby abbey will host two visiting choirs in late July and early August.
The Prebendal Singers, visiting on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th July, are an adult choir of experienced singers drawn from across the country who come together on an occasional basis to sing in cathedrals and major churches.
The Abbey will host Chester Cathedral Nave Choir from Wednesday 2nd August until Sunday 6th August. Chester Cathedral Nave Choir was founded in 1867 and claims to be the country’s longest running voluntary choir. The choir forms an important part of Chester Cathedral’s musical offering.
Selby Abbey’s Director of Music, Oliver Waterer, in welcoming the choirs, says:
“While the Abbey Choir takes a well-earned break over the summer holidays, we are delighted to welcome two distinguished visiting choirs. They will lead our choral worship on 29-30 July and 2-6 August. As always, people of all faiths and those of none are all very welcome at Selby Abbey to experience, for free, beautiful sacred music in a spectacular setting.”
