The much-anticipated York Ice Trail, organised by Make It York, returns for another spectacular year, transforming the historic city into a glittering winter wonderland.

Mark your calendars for the weekend of 1 and 2 February 2025, as York's streets will once again come alive with a stunning array of ice sculptures on display.

This year's theme narrates tales of "Origins" and promises to captivate visitors of all ages. Wander through York’s ancient streets and uncover icy creations, inspired by stories untold or those rumoured to be true. From mythical creatures and heritage inspired designs, each sculpture will tell a unique story.

As part of the extraordinary weekend, discover origin tales brought to life with live carvings, interactive experiences and the chance to win great prizes.

There will be over 20 ice sculptures on display crafted by Icebox, the UK and Europe’s leading ice sculpture specialist. These intricate sculptures will be placed at various iconic locations throughout the city.

Organised by Make It York, the York Ice Trail is a free event open to all from 10.30am to 4pm on both days, allowing plenty of time to immerse yourself in the magic.

Sarah Loftus, Managing Director of Make It York, said:

"We're thrilled to announce the return of the York Ice Trail with the new theme of Origins. The popular trail offers the perfect opportunity to explore York's historic charm, and we can’t wait to share these stunning creations with the community and visitors alike."

Last year’s York Ice Trail in February 2024 was a huge success with the theme of ‘City of Dreams’. We saw over 67,000 visitors to the city over the weekend of the Ice Trail with 87% visiting York specifically for the trail. The online survey showed that 9 out of 10 visitors would recommend the trail to family and friends, and would want to return for the next Ice Trail. The free trail also had a positive impact on businesses in the city, with 75% of visitors eating out or drinking in cafes, bars and restaurant, plus 50% were likely to go shopping.

If your business would like to take part in this fantastic event, there is still time to get in touch for more details. Participating in the York Ice Trail is a unique marketing opportunity to showcase your brand and reach new audiences.
