Appeal for information following altercation between three people in York

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses following an incident which occurred down a ginnel on Bootham Row.

Police were called to reports of an altercation between two men and one woman which involved a weapon at 10.15pm last night (Thursday 01 August 2024). Following the incident, a woman was admitted to hospital for treatment and has serious but non-life threatening injuries.

A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault. He currently remains in police custody.  

A scene guard is currently in place while enquiries continue.

The police are in the early stages of an investigation and are appealing for anyone with information or who has CCTV footage which they believe to be relevant to come forward.

Detective Inspector Emma Newton from York CID said: “Thankfully we had a quick response to last night’s incident, and we now have a suspect in custody.

“I want to reassure the public that incidents of this nature are rare in York. A full investigation is underway, and I do not believe there is a wider threat to members of the public.”
