Appeal to find man who followed girl home from school

North Yorkshire Police, Appeals

You may have noticed an increased Police presence in Bishopthorpe, here’s why:

On Monday 10 March, we received a call reporting that a 10-year-old girl was followed home from school by a man at approximately 3:15pm.

The girl was walking home from Archbishop Junior School in Bishopthorpe, and was walking on Sim Balk Lane, when she became aware of the unknown man, who appeared to be following her.

The man did not approach or speak to the girl, but appeared to follow her as she continued her journey along the cycle track towards Knavesmire Woods.

He is described as white, aged around 60 years old, with shaved short white hair and distinctive black eyebrows.

At the time, he was wearing a checked shirt underneath a navy, Harrington-style jacket with green and burgundy horizontal stripes on the front, black trousers and black shoes.

North Yorkshire Police have been carrying out enquiries to establish the identity of the man, and these enquiries remain ongoing.

The police are appealing to the man to come forward and to anyone who can help us identify him, to contact the police.

If you have any information that could assist the investigation, please call 101 and pass information for incident number 12250043414.

Local Policing teams will continue to provide an increased presence in the area.
