York: River Ouse death update

North Yorkshire Police are now able to identify the man who sadly died in the River Ouse in York on Wednesday (5 March 2025) morning.

He is 19-year-old Evan Geoffrey d’Andilly from Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire. Evan was a student at the University of York.

His family have provided a photograph of Evan, but they do not wish to issue a statement at this time. The police ask that their privacy is respected while they grieve the loss of their loved one.

Police divers recovered his body from the river at 11.45am on Wednesday.

Evan was reported to have entered the river from Ouse Bridge in the city centre at 3.06am.

As previously stated, there are believed to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

A report is being compiled on behalf of the coroner.

The police are continuing to ask witnesses to the incident or anyone with relevant CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward as soon as possible.
