Former Lord Mayor of York Ian Gillies has died aged 78

A pub in York is "thrilled" to be back after a three-week-long refurbishment.

The Black Bull in Hull Road has redone its bar, furnishings and dining area to give the family-friendly site a "lease of life".

Those are the words of Kirsten Ovenden whose father, Ian Gillies the former Lord Mayor of York has died aged 78, just over a fortnight after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.
TRAIN passengers have been hit by major cancellations this morning.

Northern say there's currently no service on their trains going westbound between York and Harrogate due to problems with the signals at Poppleton.
