Michael Brett, who runs Liquid Catering Events, a company near Sherburn-in-Elmet, is opening Avocado Envy in Blake Street.
The new venture opens at number 3, part of a Grade II listed building and the former site of The Larder Club and York Cocoa House.
The owner said: “We’ll serve up vibrant toasts and takeaway to smoothie creations - this café is all about bold flavours and good vibes.”
Michael, 43, grew up in Woodthorpe, and said he was brought up in pubs and hotels and he is a ‘lifer’ in the hospitality trade.
Liquid Catering Events is the resident caterer for Bert’s Barrow in Hillam, a farm with a marriage license for events and weddings which can accommodate up to 500 guests but this is his first venture into a commercial café in York.
He said: “We’re going to be open from 9.30am to 4pm seven days of the week, except on Thursdays, and will have space for 32 seated customers and a dedicated section for those who want to takeaway.
“As well as the classic ‘avo’ on toast, we’ll be diversifying our toppings to accompany the avocado including 25 year aged balsamic vinegar with fresh tomatoes, or our ‘fruit and fire’ offering of chorizo, strawberries, fried egg and dried chillis.”
Brunch options on the menu include local butchers choice beef burger with citrus aioli, pickled onions and arugula, or the ‘green goddess’ vegan choice.
