Lee McDonald, 42, told a shopworker he would “slit your face open” and “I will ……… come back and do it” when the employee confronted him, said Kathryn Walters, prosecuting.
Eighteen days later he was back in the same shop stealing razor blades, the second of three visits in a month to the store.
McDonald has a long history of shoplifting and other offences and was before York Magistrates' Court for six offences, all committed since January 10 this year.
Mrs Walters said he was given a suspended prison sentence for shoplifting at the same court on January 30, and three days later was shoplifting again.
“You are a one-man crime wave,” district judge Adrian Lower told him.
The judge said he had no confidence that McDonald would work with the probation service to tackle the reasons behind his offending or his drug taking.
“The court can only give you so many opportunities. You have a poor record for this sort of offending.”
He ordered McDonald to serve the suspended prison sentence and added four weeks for the shoplifting he had carried out after it was imposed.
