A police cordon is in place at a public garden in York city centre following an incident.

The cordon is around a bench in North Street Gardens, next to the River Ouse, today (Wednesday, August 28).

A police officer was on the scene at 10am with a police van parked on North Street, outside the gardens.

An empty beer bottle was on its side below the bench with a Corona box lying across from it.

The Press has contacted North Yorkshire Police for more information.
