Reports published on the Companies House website show that in October North Star (York) Ltd entered administration, with one of its creditors launching a claim for £4.3 million.
The downfall of the business follows its involvement in a scheme to redevelop a building in Parliament Street, York, which previously contained New Look and later the Vintage Store.
The company currently has one sole director, listed as Steven Davis, 52, of Middlethorpe, York.
Former directors Paul Ellis, 43, of York, is listed as leaving the company in May 2023 and James Irwin, 47, of York, was a director until June 2024.
An initial report by the administrators known as a 'Statement of Administrator’s Proposal' says the company became a legal entity in May 2021 as Grantside (North Star One) Ltd, with Grantside Ltd as corporate shareholder, of which Steve Davis is sole shareholder.
In August 2021, the company bought the freehold of 4-6 Parliament Street and 13A High Ousegate to redevelop with a new store and flats above.
An agreement was made with Mansley Serviced Apartments for Mansley to operate serviced apartments on the upper levels. The deal included an associate company of Mansley, Flemprat Ltd, to buy the building freehold.
The contract included renovations to be completed by December 2023 but “significant and largely unforeseen issues arose, resulting in significant delays in time and substantial cost increases".
