Mel Metcalf opened The Giftery & The Shop of Small Changes, in Burton Stone Lane back in Clifton in 2019
- with the aim of selling eco-friendly gifts and household items to the local community where she had lived for two decades.
During lockdown, she set up a delivery service to make sure her customers "could stay eco" and order gifts for loved ones while shops were closed.
But now she says in a post on social media that due to 'life events' beyond her control she needs to move on, and what's more she is giving away the business for free.
"No tricks, no underhand tactics, nothing hidden. We like to think that our friends, customers and regular visitors would know that we absolutely truly mean this and that this is an entirely genuine thing that we would like to do," she said.
"Our business is very nearly six years old, it’s profitable and we saw ourselves being here for a very long time.
"Our shop was profitable after only six months which is quite unheard of in retail, almost 50 per cent of new small businesses fold within the first 12 months.
