Peter Abrahms is selling the deep-fried sweet delicacy at Heworth Plaice for £1.70 each to raise funds for Andy’s Man Club, which runs a talking support group for men in York.
The Heworth fish and chip shop has sold about 380 and plans to keep frying the chocolate eggs until Easter Saturday in the hope of raising £1,000 for the cause and to increase awareness of mental health support for men.

Peter said: “My godson lost his battle with mental health year last year. He was 26 and my cousin’s son. I wanted to do something to raise awareness and to put a stop to what’s happened to my family over the last nine months. I don’t want anyone else to go through that. If we can help one family that’s my job done.
“This is a bit of fun but to also raise awareness – we have posters up which, hopefully, anyone who is struggling will see.”
Man Club runs free-to-attend peer-to-peer support groups for men aged over 18, on Monday nights at 7pm, except Bank Holidays.
It is not the first time Peter’s deep-fried confectionery has helped good causes. Last year, the Easter-inspired stunt supported a fundraising appeal to buy cuddle beds for St Leonard’s Hospice so that loved ones can lie next to patients.
