A YORK pub is set for a pretty special Saturday night.

The Songs of Stuart Adamson are playing the Lord Collingwood in Upper Poppleton this weekend on January 18 from about 8pm.

The band consisting of Chris Layhe of Icicle works, Mark Brzezicki and Simon Hough, ex Big Country and Ken Nichol of Steeleye Span formed last year having all performed with well-known bands from the 70s and 80s.

The Lord Collingwood in Upper PoppletonThey take their name from Scottish rock guitarist and singer Stuart Adamson who died in 2001 aged 43 and began his career in the late 1970s as a founding member and performer with the punk rock band Skids. After leaving Skids in 1981, he formed Big Country and was the band's lead singer and guitarist.

Stuart AdamsonFormer York publican Andy Heaton helped organise the event and said: "The event came about due my acquaintance with Simon, the lead singer.

"Whilst attending and taking part in the monthly open mic night at The Lord Collingwood in September and having had a few beers, I messaged Simon and asked if he would be interested in doing an intimate gig in York.

"The following morning I woke to find a reply saying 'let's make it happen!'
