Members of York's own Shepherd Brass Band have formed a Brass Quartet and are performing in their first concert this Saturday evening (January 11) at 7pm at Edward the Confessor Church in Dringhouses.
The quartet consists of two euphoniums and two tubas and was originally formed to compete in the Kirbymoorside Ensemble Contest last November.
The players say they enjoyed the experience of playing in a smaller group so much that they decided to expand their repertoire and offered their services to the church to raise money towards restoration of the church.
Euphonium player, Mike Pratt said: "The idea, at first, was to just form the group to compete in the contest but then we realised how much we all enjoyed it, we decided it would be lovely to play a full concert and hopefully, raise money for a very worthy cause."
