An investigation has been launched after two buses crashed in York - blocking a key route through the city centre.

East Yorkshire Buses confirmed that there were no injuries reported after its X46 and X47 services collided in Pavement last night (Thursday, March 6).

All passengers were transferred onto the next available service to continue their journey, the company said.

A spokesperson apologised for “any inconvenience caused” and said East Yorkshire Buses “appreciate the patience of our customers and other road users while the situation was resolved”.

As The Press reported, a window of the X46 East Yorkshire bus was smashed due to it colliding with a passing X47 East Riding bus outside Marks and Spencer.

The double decker buses were stopped in Pavement at 7.10pm, resulting in traffic queuing along the Stonebow.

Bus staff were on the scene shortly after 7.10pm directing drivers to turn around as vehicles were unable to pass the crash site.

By 7.30pm, the crash was reported to have been cleared and the road back open.

An East Yorkshire Buses spokesperson told The Press: “We are aware of an incident involving two East Yorkshire buses on Pavement, York, on the evening of Thursday, 6 March.
