AN INVESTIGATION into human remains found at a Hull funeral directors has moved on to the next stage in the process.

Humberside Police say a ten-month investigation into Legacy Funeral Directors has resulted in them putting their case to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to consider a prosecution.

Scores of families have been given devastating news since police began a huge investigation into Legacy Independent Funeral Directors following the recovery of 35 bodies and suspected human ashes at the firm’s site in Hessle Road last year.

Bereaved relatives across Hull and East Yorkshire have been left questioning whether they have the ashes of their loved ones, with many saying they have been told they definitely have the wrong remains.

Today assistant Chief Constable Thom McLoughlin said: “I am now able to confirm following a meticulous ten-month investigation, a comprehensive file of evidence, comprising of over 13,000 exhibits, has now been submitted to the CPS for their detailed consideration.

“The families of the 35 deceased have been informed by specialist trained officers of this significant development, and contact has also been made with other families affected.
