The car park improvements included surface repairs, relaying stone flags and replacing paving. An unused layby and old wooden fence were removed and new planted areas have been added.

Lead Member for Communities and Economic Development, Cllr David Buckle, commented, “I’m delighted this car park is being reopened following the improvement works. We know there has been some short-term inconvenience for residents, local businesses and visitors while this important work has been carried out.

“However, our contractors have carried out the work quickly to minimise the disruption and during the closure let spaces be used when possible for those using the surgery nearby, which has made things easier for local users.

“The work is part of a comprehensive programme to upgrade Council owned car parks. We've already redesigned and improved Market Cross, Audus Street and South Parade car parks in Selby. And further improvements for the rest of the Britannia car park site including the bus station and toilet are currently being developed.”

The site has also been prepared for electric vehicle charging points which will be added at a later date.
