DESPITE the downpours, visitors are flocking to North Yorkshire for the start of the region's most iconic agricultural show.

• Footpath and drainage works on Acomb’s Front Street which also saw the controversial installation of bollards ultimately made it a safer place, a Liberal Democrat ward councillor has said.

  Westfield ward’s Cllr Andrew Waller said the Liberal Democrats worked hard to secure the grants used to improve Front Street when they were in the administration which ran York Council.

• Senior York councillors have backed removing bollards in an Acomb street with one claiming their installation wasted hundreds of thousands of pounds of taxpayers' money.

  Bollards in Acomb Front Street could be replaced with planters and seating after York council’s Executive gave the go ahead for detailed plans for its future to be drawn up.

• A well-known York restaurant has announced a significant improvement in its food hygiene ratings.

  The Olive Tree York in Tower Street received one star from City of York Council following an inspection in February, meaning ‘major improvement necessary.

• A WOMAN from North Yorkshire has been arrested in connection with a double murder investigation.

  Surrey Police say it follows the death of two men in a crash in Sunbury after their officers were called at 12.52am on Monday (July 22) to the A316 southbound slip road onto the M3 following a suspected collision involving a black e-bike.
