INVESTIGATION work is underway as part of a major project in York.

Ground investigations are underway as part of the ongoing York Station Gateway scheme, which aims to revamp the area outside York Station and is due to be completed later this year.

The project is the work of City of York Council, West Yorkshire Combined Authority, Network Rail and LNER and is funded though the West Yorkshire-plus Transport Fund, the Transforming Cities Fund and the UK government. The front of York Station is being transformed to create a new and improved gateway to the city.

As part of the work, Central Alliance, an RSK Group company, has delivered ground investigations and is currently conducting routine monitoring of groundwater level and ground movement of the site near the recently removed Queen Street Bridge on behalf of Sisk until December 2025.

Central Alliance Director Ben Swallow said: “The ground investigation works involved the construction of three exploratory boreholes to a maximum depth of 25 metres below ground level along with the installation of ground movement access tube adjacent to two piles at 15 metres below ground level.
