As previously reported by The Press, the future of Haxby Station was thrown into doubt after Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced the end of the Restoring Your Railways fund - £3.5 million of which was earmarked for Haxby Station.
However, no confirmation has been made that the Haxby scheme would be scrapped, with City of York Council saying it will "do everything" possible to make it happen.
The Liberal Democrats in York launched a petition to "save" the project, claiming that the "rug is being pulled at the last minute".
The Lib Dem councillors for Haxby and Wigginton wrote to the Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, the Deputy Mayor for transport, the council leader, and the council’s transport executive member asking that they join the campaign to restore the funding or guarantee that Mayoral funds will be used instead.
