MORE than 2,000 people have signed a petition to 'save' a community pub in York - with locals said to be 'gutted' over plans for the site.

The pub's current landlady Lorna Turnbull launched the petition for the Bay Horse in Blossom Street after claiming that the Stonegate Brewing Company

- which owns the leasehold for the site - has refused to renew the current lease.

Lorna said she believed Stonegate wanted to bring the Bay Horse under its Craft Union pubs banner.

Currently, York has three Craft Union pubs: the Punchbowl York in Lowther Street, the Nags Head in Micklegate, and the Beagle Acomb in Foxwood Lane.

Craft Union pubs are known for being lower-cost options that typically show live sports and play music.

Lorna told The Press: "We don’t have shiny tellies or stay open until 1am, we’re a proper, nice community pub."
