NEW affordable houses planned for a York village look set to get the go-ahead - despite fears the development will be out of character and lead to the loss of trees.

A City of York Council planning committee has been recommended by council officers to approve an application from Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust (JRHT)

for planning permission to demolish 18 garages and build a terrace of five two-bedroom houses in Hawthorn Terrace South, New Earswick.

 

 

In papers set to go in front of the planning committee on February 26, council officers said other benefits include “the utilisation of previously developed land for residential development in a sustainable location, removal of the uncharacteristic garages, suitable landscaping and parking for new occupiers and visitors.”

Design documents prepared for JRHT said “The form and arrangement of outside space and homes have been developed with a view to creating secure sympathetic, and attractive new residential properties in the village.
