Ryedale District Council encourages organisations to apply for CIL funding for infrastructure projects in the district
Ryedale District Council is seeking applications to the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Grant Scheme.
The CIL allows local authorities to raise money from new developments which can then be used to help fund physical infrastructure needs in the area.
It is a way to mitigate the impacts of new development.
The Council has a funding pot of around £3million from CIL which local organisations are able to bid for.
The authority’s officers and CIL Grants Working Party will consider all Stage One applications.
Following this appraisal, the Council will write to inform those applicants that did not meet the criteria and are therefore unable to proceed further.
If all criteria have been met and the CIL Grants Working Party agree that the project is eligible, applicants will then be invited to complete and submit a Stage Two application.
Phillip Spurr, Programme Director of Place and Resources at Ryedale District Council, said: “The Community Infrastructure Levy is an important way of providing new assets in our communities that are needed when development happens in the district.’’
“We believe this funding can support infrastructure projects which aim to improve the lives of Ryedale’s citizens.’’
“I hope we receive exciting proposals and encourage organisations who have infrastructure projects to submit a stage one application.”
The definition of infrastructure is broad and includes areas such as roads, schools and other educational facilities, sports and recreational facilities and open spaces.

In April 2023, the eight district, borough and county councils in North Yorkshire will cease to exist and the new unitary North Yorkshire Council will be created.
Because of this, under Section 24 of the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act, organisations may be subject to Section 24 approval through North Yorkshire County Council before receiving the funds.
Stage one applications open on 16 November and close on 30 November at 9amwith decisions expected to be made by 16 December.
Eligible projects will then be invited to submit Stage Two applications from 19 December.

A bid to grant protected status to a York music venue has succeeded following news of its closure and sale to a property developer.
