Plans to demolish a York garage and build an apartment block have been submitted - but a historic part of the building will be retained.

The plans lodged with York Council, from Blenheim Estates, would see the building housing a Kwik Fit garage in The Mount torn down to make way for 14 apartments.

Part of the 19th Century building to the south of the existing block will be kept in place.

The developers stated their proposals would create new homes while also helping to enhance the surrounding area which includes historic and listed buildings.

Buildings at 106-112 The Mount which are earmarked for development house vacant office space in their upper floors along with the garage.

The apartment block would be four storeys high which would keep it in line with the height of neighbouring buildings, according to the application.

It would feature apartments ranging in size from one to three bedrooms.

Each of the flats would have an open plan kitchen and dining area, with 11 in the main building and the remaining three in a smaller one to the rear.
