Charlie Malarkey's New Earswick Boxing (KO) for Kindness club project is well underway on the outskirts of the city with the building footings already in place and a six metre tall steel frame now erected.
Now the man behind the project, the Salvation Army’s Charlie Malarkey, said he wants to hear from people wanting to place a plaque at the building when it's up and running for a donation of £100.
Charlie said the idea came about after the family of a homeless person who had died got in touch.
"They found a really touching poem that he had written before he died and said they'd like to turn it into a plaque in his memory," said Charlie.
Charlie said he is open to ideas, but the plaques could be memorials or commemorate a birth or perhaps be from a business.
The club, which is in the process of being built at New Earswick Sports Club and aims to get people off the streets and give them a purpose in life, already has planning permission for a brand new gym.
Charlie said the next phase of the build will be to install a breeze block skin with two bricklayers from Pinnacle Conservation coming to do the work.
