GRIFFO in the Morning

6:00am - 10:00am

THOUSANDS of homes and businesses lost power this morning (January 24) as Storm Éowyn swept across North Yorkshire.

Across the UK, millions of people have been urged to stay at home as 100mph winds pose a danger to life and cause travel disruption.

Rail services, flights and ferries have been axed, with rare red weather warnings in place on Friday in Scotland and Northern Ireland as the storm batters part of the country.

Northern Powergrid, the electricity network manager for the North Yorkshire, the Humber and North Lincolnshire, said 14,000 customers were affected by the storm, and reconnected 8,000 of them by 10am.

Properties in a corridor running either side of the A64 from Strensall to Barton Hill were affected by outages, along with Stamford Bridge and areas close to Scarborough and Whitby.
