Kathryn Apanowicz, the partner of the late Countdown presenter and Minster FM co-founder Richard Whiteley, has died aged 64 after illness.
She was the former radio station’s first presenter on its first day of broadcast, July 4, 1992.
Speaking about her old job to The Press back in 2020 when the station stopped broadcasting local news she said: “It was fabulous, it was new, it was fun.
“It was just something alternative, and I’m completely sad at what’s happening.”
Kathryn grew up in Horsforth, Leeds, and lived in East Witton, near Leyburn. She and Richard were in a relationship from 1994 until his death in 2005 aged 61 from heart problems.
She was known for her roles in the Yorkshire soap opera Emmerdale, as well as in EastEnders and in the nursing drama, Angels.
She started acting at a young age in Yorkshire Television's Junior Show Time and in the film Bugsy Malone.
In EastEnders she played Dirty Den’s mistress Magda Czajkowski. She appeared in Emmerdale in 1972 and Corrie in 1960 and again in 1997.
