UPDATE: The road has now reopened and traffic is returning to normal.

PART of a major road in North Yorkshire is blocked after a crash.

There are reports that the M62 westbound is partially blocked due to an accident at junction 34 - the A19 turning for Selby and Doncaster.

Two lanes are closed and drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said they were called in at just before 3am.

A service spokesman said: “Selby fire crew were requested by police and the Highways Agency to assist with a horse which had been struck and killed on the carriageway.

“Crew power was used to moved the body from the motorway, with the road surface then washed down.”
