York charities have put out an urgent appeal for clothes and other items for 450 asylum seekers who are expected to start arriving in York any day now.

• A bid to grant protected status to a York music venue has succeeded following news of its closure and sale to a property developer.

  The museum has agreed to additional hours of pedestrian access through Central Hall, its new welcome building, which forms part of the new York Central development.
