York’s hospital trust has paid out more than £1 million in the last five years over claims resulting from gynaecology related incidents.

York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has received 35 claims over gynaecology related incidents since 2019.

It has had to pay out over 11 incidents.

The trust paid £533,000 in damages, along with £57,959 in NHS legal costs, and £436,520 in claimant legal costs.

The figures were obtained in a Freedom of Information (FOI) request issued by Medical Negligence Assist and included all of the trust's hospitals, including York, Scarborough, Bridlington and Malton.

In the request, the trust was asked to reveal the number of gynaecology related claims received and the cost of those claims.
