A former Selby and Wetherby Rugby Union star has died aged just 29.

Tom Edwards, who was Captain of the Selby Rugby Union’s First XV, died suddenly in the early hours of the morning of Thursday last week.

A former Selby and Wetherby Rugby Union star has died aged just 29.

Tom Edwards, who was Captain of the Selby Rugby Union’s First XV, died suddenly in the early hours of the morning of Thursday last week.

Tom grew up in North Yorkshire and was a much loved member of the Rugby club, being described as a Leader and much loved teammate.

D J Skelton, President Selby RUFC said: "Selby RUFC is deeply saddened to inform you of the sudden passing of First XV Captain Tom Edwards. Tom aged 29, passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning. Tom was popular and well - loved across all ages within the Club. He will be sadly missed.

The families of both Tom and his fiancée have asked for their privacy to be respected at this very difficult time."
