Heworth Girls U13s Rugby League team

In a remarkable debut season, the Heworth Girls U13s Rugby League team already victorious in their league championship now have their sights firmly set on the cup.

The 22 strong squad, made up of girls from across the city go into the semi-finals on Saturday 30 September.   This impressive team of talented young women have played a series of thrilling matches so far and aim to continue to build on their current success to make it all the way to the final.

Buffing a worrying trend*** of young women abandoning sport during their teenage years this team have truly embraced Rugby league, with high numbers of team participation week on week. Couple this with the dedication of the three volunteer coaches, Lee, Andy and Alistair**, the team are in with a good shot for the cup.

In the first cup match, Warrington wolves beaten by only one team previously, were set to be a challenging opponent. The game went to sudden death with Heworth the first to score, securing a win.

Heworth 26 – 22 Warrington Wolves Lunas 

Next up Thatto Heath Crusader, played away in unbearable heat the U13s exhibited real grit, determination and teamwork, delivering excellent individual performances and a deserved victory. Thatto Heath Crusaders 4 – 24 Heworth. 

Bassetlaw Bulldogs, found Heworth brimming with confidence following their opening two wins.  The Bulldogs held their own for parts of the game but Heworth got stuck in and were triumphant. Heworth 64 – 0 Bassetlaw Bulldogs  

The final match of the cup stages was a bye, consolidating Heworth’s position in the cup. 

As Heworth Girls Under 13s continues to expand their potential, the anticipation for the upcoming semifinal match is at an all-time high as they get set to face off against Stanningley.   This match promises to be a thrilling clash of talent and determination.
