It has been revealed that one of the four apartment buildings being built in place of previous York City ground Bootham Crescent will be named after Billy Sherrington, a man dubbed “Mr York City.”

York Based Housebuilder “Persimmon” have been working with the City of York Council to have the four apartment buildings named after York City fan favourites.

It has been revealed that one of the four apartment buildings being built in place of previous York City ground Bootham Crescent will be named after Billy Sherrington, a man dubbed “Mr York City.”

York Based Housebuilder “Persimmon” have been working with the City of York Council to have the four apartment buildings named after York City fan favourites.

Billy Sherrington played an instrumental role in the club, being a founding director in 1922, before spending 37 years as club secretary, with main accomplishments being securing football league status, and moving the club to Bootham Crescent and establishing it as the home of York City.

He also had two separate spells as manager of the club, with the highlight being guiding the Minstermen to the FA Cup Semi Final in the mid-1950s.
