York City Baths Club

Swimmers from York City Baths Club (YCBC) recently took to the pool in the Yorkshire Swimming Association Country Championships and came away with a record haul, claiming more than 50 individual medals for the first time.

Across three weekends of intense competition in Leeds and Sheffield, YCBC swimmers aged 9-18 tested themselves against the best in the county. Continuingtheir excellent progress of recent years, in the individual events the team achieved 226 personal bests across 359 swims. And of the 97 finals swam, around 50% of them resulted in silverware, with a total of 55 medalswon.

Eve Parkin, Stan Sawyer and Sam Taylor claimed three golds each, with Sam scooping 10 medals in total. Annabel Edwards also picked up two golds, while Morgan Burns swam brilliantly to claim seven silver and two bronze medals.

There was also success in the team events with 17 YCBC teams making the relay finals, securing three more medals in the process.

Josh Spencer, who this year celebrates a decade as head coach of YCBC, said of the club’s success: “All the swimmers, right across the age groups, performed amazingly well. To win more than 50 medals for the first time shows the improvements we’re making year-on-year, as we continue to punch well above our weight against the biggest clubs in Yorkshire.”
