York City Baths Club take the North East Swimming Championships by storm

York City Baths Club

Swimmers from York City Baths Club (YCBC) continued their excellent season’s form at the recent Swim England North East Region Championships, coming away with a host of medals and personal bests.

Competing in what is regarded as one of the most competitive regions in the country, the
squad put in a series of outstanding performances, making 40 finals and winning 15 medals,
nine of them gold.
Jessica Heaton led the way by picking up a total of seven medals, including six golds, with
Annabel Edwards claiming two golds.
The club’s 11-14-year-olds swam in Leeds over two weekends, with the youth swimmers
aged 15 and over, lining up in Sunderland.
The competition also represented the last opportunity to qualify for this summer’s British and
English National Championships, and 15 individual swimmers and one relay team securing
their place on the starting blocks.
Josh Spencer, YCBC Head Coach, said of the Championships: “I’m very proud of the
squad’s achievements, which represent a significant increase in the number of qualifiers,
finalists and medallists compared to last year. The continued progress that the swimmers
have made this season bodes well for the competitions ahead.”
